Aakash Tablet PC - World's cheapest tablet computer launched in INDIA



 
The world's cheapest tablet computer was launched in India on Wednesday (5th Oct 2011). Telecoms and human resource development minister Kapil Sibal launched the tablet  Aakash, priced at $35 or Rs 1,750 for students pursuing graduation.

The government is sourcing the tablet from UK-based Datawind at Rs 2,256 inclusive of all taxes, levies, freight and insurance charges, servicing and
documentation.Government will subsidize the cost, so a student would have to pay only Rs.1,100/- for the device (price may vary slightly).

  • Wi-Fi enabled for internet access. Wireless communication for audio/video I/O
  • 256 MB of RAM and 2 GB of internal memory
  • single core 366 Mhz processor plus a HD video co-processor
  • weighs 350 gm.
  • 32 GB expandable memory slot and two USB ports.
  • 7 inch resistive touch screen with 800×480 resolution. It has a keyboard which is in-built.
  • Support for video web conferencing facility
