Hi all.. When we insert a Pen drive
or Modem, there will be a port associated with the each device in the
Device Manager in the Windows Operating System. Some times we may
want to change the COM Port of a particular device for some purpose.
So here is the procedure to change
the COM Port of a particular device in the Windows XP based systems.
My Computer
(Right click) > Properties > Hardware (tab) > Device Manager
> Ports (COM & LPT)
- Then double click (or Right click then Properties) on the device name i.e. brand name of the product. You will get a dialog, goto Port Settings tab in that dialog, then click on Advanced.. button
- A new dialog with COM Port Number drop down will appear, change the port number you want. You might get a warning message about whether you wish to continue, Click on Yes
- Then Click OK to close the dialog. And close Device Manager dialog window.
- Now Remove your device safely and Connect it to system again, then See the Device Manager Ports to view the changed COM Port.
